SUBJECT:        IHSSA Scholarship Rule

The Iowa High School Speech Association Board of Directors voted unanimously at its July 2008 meeting to endorse a single change to the scholarship rule for the coming year. The change will be similar to the change in the scholarship rule that is being used by the athletic organizations for the coming year. Therefore, students in IHSSA activities and athletics will follow the same scholarship rule. However, the penalty aspect of the rule is different for the IHSSA students due to the activity and the way the season plays out for those students. This part of the rule has not changed.

The only change for the IHSSA student is the time period, it is for 30 calendar days and not 30 school days. If a student is ineligible they cannot participate in IHSSA sponsored or sanctioned events for 30 calendar days. All other aspects of the IHSSA rule are the same as they have been in the past.
